Laura Lee Zanger, the master of twills, is coming to ETB
Laura Lee Zanger is from Augusta, Georgia. Although her actual weaving began in 1986, she has been making Cherokee-style twills since October of 2000. She incorporates vibrant colors and uses math skills to expand on the variety of twill combinations that are characteristic in her work. Laura Lee enjoys expressing her creativity through the 1-3-5 twill and the doublewoven twill weaving techniques with a contemporary twist. Her non-twill baskets are a rarity.
Laura Lee's passion for twills takes her all over the United States where she teaches basket weaving at state, regional, and guild events. She has designed over 50 baskets with written patterns for basket weavers, and she has authored a series of instructional books called Laura Lee's Little Bitty Basket Books on several different weaving techniques. Most of these books contain comical basketry poetry. She has also written Old Woman And The Legend of the Doublewoven Basket and made the accompanying Doubleweave, A How-To DVD, and The Luck of the Draw, Fun Activity for Small Weaving Groups or Basket Guilds.
Laura Lee has more recently written and published the novel Spirit Voice. It is a fictional story of Native American life from the mountains of North Carolina to the
coast of South Carolina in Pre-colonial America. It is told by an old Cherokee basket weaver as she recalls her past and the lives of her people.
